Replacing the spark plug (again) made the mower work, and I was able to mow the lawn. It wasn't as hot today while I was mowing, but it was still a terrible slog. At one point, the mower belched forth masses of white clouds of smoke, but quickly returned to normal. Something got where it shouldn't, I imagine, and I hope that this time the spark plug will last. We will probably only need to mow twice more this year, with any luck, and the spark plugs cost around $3, but its still annoying to have to replace them. _

The mower is doing the same damn thing it did last time, and so I am going to try to replace the spark plug (again) and see if that doesn't work (again). Also, for some reason the garage where its been stored has been very damp, and there is a patina of mold on the machine, which is worrying in a whole nother capacity. _

It is amazing how productive getting up at 7 makes one feel. I went to some orientation/training for substitute teachers, and got paid for it, too! I did a 4-week Unemployment check-in. Its not even noon, and I feel like applying for a bunch of jobs and getting a lot more done today, like mowing the lawn or mopping the floors.

So, either the rest of the day will also be production, or else I will take a nap, because I got up too damn early. One of the two. _

One of my houseplants has grown too tall. I had been sticking pencils into the pot to help keep it propped up, but they haven't been long enough lately. Since I couldn't find any wooden dowels, I sawed up a plastic clothes hanger and am using that. So far, its going a bang up job. The plant is still too top-heavy, though, which means I am using old twisty-tyes to attach it to the plastic dowel.

In other plant news, none of the plants died while I was in Florida, and the ivy is looking healthier that its looked since I bought it. I just might have to go looking for another plant. Of course, I'm running out of desk space, so I might have to buy a window shelf or something like that as well. _

I saw a play called Morphotic, which was, sort of, about Franze Kafka. Unless it was about Gregor Samsa. Or someone else entirely. It was conceptually very appealing, and done well, although it did not emotionally engage, if only because for me at least, it was too difficult to tell what was real and what was delusion. The physicality of the play was marvelous, and at times even sublime. The pacing, likewise was excellent, and the three arcs of the play moved together in a way which was very interesting. The first 'scene' was entirely frenetic and hallucinatory, and so when it moved into the second scene, a feeling of calm came over the viewer. The calmness, however, only hinted at resolution, and failed to deliver. Some nice things about it: a very stylistic physical choice to indicate when the actors were and were not onstage; a laughtrack that cut in at hilarious times; a very nice dance number where the physically impaired Kafka managed to dance with his partner while never once losing the language of the physical impairment while at the same time in no way hindering the expression of the moment. A good production, and I was glad to see it, but I felt unable to come out of it and say, "This was enjoyable" because I felt ambivalent and confused through much of the story. Definitely a lot to process, and the primary result was that I wanted to read about the true life of Franz Kafka to see what, if any, was biographical. It also raised, for me, interesting questions about the nature of avant garde theater and the ability of any play to push the envelope in today's world. _

I recently joined eMusic, lured by an offer of free songs, and I got free songs, so its all good. I discovered, however, than an album I downloaded sounded horribly on my MP3 player. All of the songs were cut off, too short, more like samples than full songs, and I hated it.

Listening to the album on my computer, however, I found the whole of it was much better. The computer played the songs continuously, while my MP3 player had a tiny gap between each track. As a result, on the computer it was obviously one long jam session, and it worked. I am disappointed that the individual tracks don't work as well, and don't work on the MP3 player, but I am happy that the album wasn't a total waste of a download. _

Hello from Sunny Florida! The weather is delightful! I've been swimming every day at least once, and often more. About to go out sailing, but managed to snag a little time online. Its so nice here. I want to live in the house we're staying at always. Its right on the beach, and has a deck and a hottub and and outdoor shower, and its lovely. The whole three days so far has been fantastic, and we are here til Saturday. _
